Slugging: My Unfiltered Thoughts
Slugging. We’ve all heard about it and some of us may have even tried it and… liked it. The term Slugging essentially means the process of slathering your face with petroleum jelly. Sounds great doesn’t it? The K-Beauty trend recently gained popularity through Tik Tok, but does it actually work?

Petroleum jelly has been used as a skin protectant for ages. I actually first got into slugging during the start of the pandemic as I was struggling with eczema and dermatitis, especially around my eyes and eyelid area.
My dermatologist recommended I apply Vaseline to eyelids to protect and hydrate the area that had become dry and flaky. Throughout the initial application, I realized how much this everyday product actually did for my skin. I began to try it out on the rest of my face and soon I became a huge fan!
Now, there are many different ways to slug your face, however the main idea is to apply Vaseline at the very end of your skincare routine to lock in your products as well as moisture and keep any bacteria or dirt from entering your pores. If you are looking for a step by step tutorial on how to slug, check out my video below!
Start by applying all your skincare products in your normal step by step routine.
Once all products are applied, including moisturizer, go in with your petroleum jelly and apply throughout the face and neck.
Overall, applying Vaseline to your face may feel weird and strange, but the results are well worth it. When I am suffering from a dermatitis outbreak or my skin is just fairly dry, slugging overnight transforms my skin from dry and dull to hydrated and glowing (probably from the leftover jelly). I definitely think everyone should try it out at least once to see the hype for yourself and take a lot of glazed donut selfies… like me!
