Sheet Masks: When To Use Them
Whether you’re a casual sheet masker or are looking to incorporate them into your daily routine, I have a few tips & tricks for choosing the right mask for the right occasion. Skincare routines, serums, toners, moisturizers– it can really be overwhelming. Follow these tips to get the most out of your sheet mask sessions.
Morning or Night?
Yes you can sheet mask at any time but some functions are better suited for specific times of day. Personally, I prefer morning sheet masks with skin benefits like radiance, revitalizing, or nourishing. These perfectly prep your skin for makeup or just wake up and refresh your complexion. In the evening, masks with soothing, hydrating, or pore control benefits are the best way to end your day. Ending with something that decongests, hydrates or soothes, depending on your skin type, can help you prep your skin for a good night’s sleep.
How often can you use sheet masks?
This really depends on your own schedule and lifestyle. Typically 2-3 sheet masks per week is what is recommended but in the skincare world, many people wear them daily. If you want to follow a daily sheet mask routine, try to spread out your function masks with two days of hydrating masks. What this means is if you use a function mask, such as pore control or revitalizing, use a moisturizing or nourishing mask in between. One day on, two days recovery– similar to skin cycling.
Where does it fit into my routine?
Whether day or night, the order you apply your skincare really does matter. A routine should always start with cleansing. If you want to get the most out of cleansing you should follow with a toner which can help remove the soap residue and prepare your skin for your serums and oils. After the toner is the best time to use a sheet mask. If you want to boost moisturization you can apply facial oils before but it’s best to use them after a mask. This is then when you can follow up with your moisturizer & SPF.
